Márquez adds his sixth victory after an exciting duel with Lorenzo

Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) has maintained his record of 100% of victories in the 2014 Championship by winning an electrifying battle against Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP). The Spaniard has crossed the goal to 0.121s. of the world champion. Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) was third and added a new podium at the Mugello circuit.

Marquez wins over and over again, but he does not bore. Add victories, but do not decal them. The world champion knows how to win from the pole and escaped, or after a prolonged pursuit, like this Sunday, in a race that has also offered an anthological duel with Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), the best battle seen in the current course.
The Balearic pilot, who had won at Mugello in the last three years, has exhibited his best level and has only yielded the first place by just over a tenth of a second after leading the test until seven laps to go.

In the first minutes, the duel between Márquez and Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing) has sparked. The MotoGP leader wanted to quickly get rid of the Italian so as not to lose sight of Yamaha, but Iannone has offered strong resistance in the first few laps and that of Cervera has definitely cost him to overtake him.

In that phase there has been the fall of Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3) and shortly after also that of Cal Crutchlow (Ducati Team), who had left from the second line. The Briton has gone ahead to Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda), who had already started the race with the handicap of his strong fall during the warm up, a `highside’ from which he escaped without injuries, but with a strong blow in the forearm. The German, who had signed two fourth places in Mugello during his last two visits, has seen his new appearance on the Tuscan track definitively ruined.

While in the group other incidents took place – the departures of Michel Fabrizio (Octo IodaRacing) and Héctor Barberá (Avintia Racing) – in the head of the platoon Lorenzo has not lost bellows. In one of his favorite territories he has sought the first triumph of the year with total determination. The Yamaha has stepped off the line on the long straight, where they rolled at almost 200 kms / h. and the shaking of his M1 has given him a monumental scare that Márquez has taken advantage of to overtake him. But unlike other races, the maneuver has not been decisive in the fight but the beginning of a great battle between the two world champions.

In the following turns the two rivals have stubbornly put themselves in the lead and have alternated their positions offering a display of piloting to the limit. In the last lap, the Lleida has recovered the first position and has managed to close all the doors until crossing the finish line at 0.121 seconds of his opponent.

In his 300th Grand Prix, Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) has shown that his desire and competitiveness remain intact. It has not been able to with the superior pace of Márquez and Lorenzo, especially after being forced to start from the tenth position on the grid, equaling his worst classification of 2014. In that first race he finished in second position, and today he was third, although not very far from the two Spaniards. The idol of Mugello is a pasta that is not passed, as he himself was responsible for remembering this weekend in the special helmet that always premieres in this circuit. His success has been double, as that box has also led him to climb to second place in the overall, displacing Dani Pedrosa, who has cut distances in the last third of the race but has had to settle for fourth place. Now Rossi has one more point than the Barcelona of Repsol Honda. Lorenzo also climbed a position and is now fourth in the championship, with two points more than Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team), which today was sixth.
