Reigning World Champion crashes while fighting for the lead in the rain at the British Grand Prix. This withdrawal frustrates Marquez chances to achieve World title this year.
Marc Marquez crashed out of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, just past the halfway mark in the race. The Repsol Honda Team rider was running second behind eventual winner Valentino Rossi in a wet race when he fell.
After a start delayed by the onset of rain, Marquez broke away at the front with Valentino Rossi after an initial flurry of overtaking. Over 6 seconds ahead of the third placed rider by Lap 13 and Jorge Lorenzo in back positions, the Repsol Honda Team rider crashed at Turn 1 and could not continue the race.
With this result, Marc Marquez lies third in the overall standings with 159 points. The MotoGP World Championsip heads to San Marino next, to begin the last quarter of the 2015 season in a fortnight’s time.
Marc Márquez: “The World Championship situation was already complicated before this Grand Prix, and now it is even more difficult, but it is also true that this was a race where we had to take a risk. I felt I had the race under control and I crashed out. It means zero points, but the fact that we were back up at the front again was the positive side of today.”
